Hats off to Ms. Anita Roberts, better known as Da Coach, and the Glenwood Skate Club for an awesome skate show on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Glenwood Roller Rink.
The 9th Annual Glenwood Roller Skate Show featured at least 30 roller skaters of all ages and skill levels skated in different genres – JB, session and competitive – to various types of music. We (I pulled it off without falling, y’all) performed in front of a packed house of at least 250 guests.
The purpose of the skate show is to raise funds for the Glenwood Skate Club, which has 2 adult and 8 youth members. The money will be used to pay for costumes, travel and other expenses.
Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures as I was performing in the show. On a more pleasant note, everyone put on their best. And, as far as I know, there were no injuries.
I do have a legitimate complaint, though. Why did Anita send me out after Ralph, a young club member and excellent skater, who did two axles in his performance? That’s a jump spin, in case you didn’t know. That did nothing for my self-esteem!
Honestly, my favorite performers were all of the youngsters. I think the youngest skater was Elijah, a 3-year-old JB skater, who performed with his mother, Nikki. And big shouts out to Scotty, the 5-year-old competitive skater who worked his X-Man. Go Scotty!
I’m going to try to upload video clips and pictures as I get them. However, if you have any, please feel free to share.
Did you attend the Glenwood Skate Show this year? Who was your favorite skater? Why? What would you like to see in future shows?
