Did you know that people used to roller skate to organ music? Early skating was done to dances like the Waltz, Foxtrot and the Tango. In fact, if you visit Glenwood Roller Rink and other rinks where “seasoned” citizens roll, you will get a chance to see them in action.
Roller Rink music changed in the late 60s and early 70s when music became “mechanical”. This is when DJs ushered in the disco era, which was one of the hottest periods in roller skating history.
If you are or were a Chicago roller skating rink DJ or personally know an organist, please let me know. Share your story in the comment section below or have them to contact me via comment form.
