The New Savoy on 78th & Cottage was another popular roller skating rink on the South Side. While I don’t have as much information as I did with The Loop, I do know that it was a hot spot in the 1970s.
Well, I do know that it was owned by Jimmie Davis, the man who was responsible for opening the doors so black people could skate indoors – literally and figuratively.
