Ok, your experience may not had been this daring…or dangerous, but maybe one of you fell for the other (pun intended).
Roller skating was more than a sport, a form of amusement or exercise; it was a place of social activity. From my conversations, roller rinks were once an integral part of the community and was woven into the lives of the residents like school, home and church. I don’t know what happened to change all that, but I do know that relationships formed and ended on wheels. Well, at least at the rink.
Did you or someone you know find love on roller skates or at a roller rink? How did it began? What was your experience like?

My mother, Donna Chamis, shared alot of great skating stories from her youth when she frequented Oak Lawn Roller Rink. She met her first husband there, Wayne Kreiss Sr back on December 7, 1969. She mentioned a skating club and one of its members Ted Dettloff (not sure of spelling) was an excellent skater. He hung out with a Mike and another gentleman named Ray. I am actually looking for them and was hoping there would be someone out there that has any information. Please help!
Thank you for stopping through and sharing these memories. I know a Ray, I’ll send you his information offline.
Please contact me, was following up on leads and realized I hadn’t gotten any info from you, thanks!

Hi Tina. You mentioned a name there of Ted Dettloff, spelled correctly, that man is my birth father. He passed away back in 1983. I spoke to my mother and she is trying to remember if the other two gentleman that you mentioned were people she might remember, but nothing off the top of her head. She hasn’t thought about any of that era and my dad since about 1975. If you would like to know more or pass more information, I’m on facebook, just look up “tski72” and you will find me. Its great to here that he made such of impression that your mother would remember after so long, I don’t have many fond memories of him at all. Thank you very much for at least one.
